Traffic throttling

I was sure that my bittorrent downloads are ’shaped’ by AT&T which is my internet provider. Lately, torrents were performing pretty badly, however thanks to this test, I was able to verify and check:

AT&T does not obstruct bittorrent traffic in any way, I am happy to report.
I think my poor performance is due to [...]

Passenger a.k.a. mod_rails

Dreamhost were most of our sites are hosted is known for two things, overselling and adding all the latest and greatest features for it’s users. Also customer service is pretty good there as well, specially taking into account that it is shared hosting. And just to mention is that they put very few limitations which [...]

Chicago Rails Conference

Chicago will have it’s own Rails conference in September and I will be there. Since price for attendance is reasonable and all the cool people are already here, I am pretty certain it will be awesome event and I am looking forward.

First thing I tried was ‘Start [...]

Getting new machine

My desktop machine started dying on monday this week. It was due for upgrade for some time, but since it worked fairly well, there was not good reason to upgrade, yet I started thinking about it. Usually getting new machine is exciting, yet I didn’t feel I should write something here when I got new [...]

Google Apps II

I finally got my invite to google apps. I was a little disappointed not to get this earlier as I signed up fairly soon after it was announced, but it seems that  quite a lot of people were quick too. Also I got a lot of time to read about it and what is good [...]

Git, a new SCM of choice for Rails

I am a little late talking about this but it is worth mentioning it. Git is a versioning system used for linux development, newly developed to facilitate easier and more seamless colaboration. It is adopted by Rails core team, with a lot of complains from rails contributors, specially ones who are using windows. I tried [...]
